Our Story

john-mulready

It started with a man named Mulready

Consistently voted best bar in the Flint Hills, Mulready’s Pub was founded in 2013 by Rick Becker, who began with a dream to create a cozy, inviting place to enjoy the greatest gift to mankind – craft beer. Rick, who is half German and half Irish, named the pub after his great grandfather, John Mulready, whose face watches over the bar. Rick’s grandmother also shows her face around the pub. As tradition dictates, you will also find Meg’s nana above the bar. You can ask for your beer in a “nana” glass, which is a smaller 10 oz serving and is “nana approved!”

It wouldn’t be an Irish pub without the official Irish Republic Proclamation looking over us, too. Thanks to the late Jamie Darcy, our beloved Irishman who left us too soon, for this meaningful gift.

The Legacy Continues with Meg & Joe

In 2023, Rick sold the Pub to Meg Worthing and Joe Reed, who expanded Rick’s dream and who also celebrate now having the only dual woman-owned, veteran-owned bar in Emporia. With 23 taps, including 3 nitros, the pub has the area’s largest selection of craft beer, along with a large selection of bottles and bombers from the nation’s best breweries.

We also create craft cocktails made from fresh ingredients, and, aided by Meg’s Level 3 Sommelier Certification, we have also created an impressive wine list. We can also brag about one of the largest scotch and whiskey selections in the region. Our bartenders are extensively trained in beer knowledge (as well as cocktails, spirits, and wine), and some are Cicerone Certified Beer Servers. Meg and Joe are also licensed caterers for both alcohol and food and would be thrilled to help you put on the best event possible.

Atmosphere

With its glass front, the pub is bright, clean, and inviting. The patio in the back is perfect for enjoying a drink outside. We feature live music, firkin tappings, and tasting events on occasion through out the year. Our beer selection changes with the seasons, so come see what’s new!
